Ordinary but a little Unhinged

Fade to black

They say life is hard
But we have to live it

It’s no pain no gain
But we have to give it

We don’t ask to be here
Someone decides we’re alive
We don’t get a choice
And they tell us thrive

It’s all disaster and famine
War plague and fear
We’re given the keys
But not taught how to steer

They talk about tunnels
With lights at the end
More like carrots on strings
And how far we’ll bend

Scrambling scraping
And clawing through days
Chasing that something
The good never stays

Well we don’t want carrots
And we don’t want pain
The clawing and scraping
It’s all too much strain

Why is it life’s hard
Why cop all the flack
Just shut it all down
And then fade to black

    No one ever tells you,
    About the pain you go through.
    No one ever tells you,
    That the world is against you.

    You’re expected to feel it;
    To let it tear you apart;
    To let it destroy you;
    To live in the dark.

    Sometimes it can consume you;
    Leave you trapped and alone;
    Taunt you with demons;
    Rip you away from your home.

    But understand there are others;
    Stuck in that cave;
    Battling with those demons;
    Telling themselves that they’re brave.

    And when you’re alone there;
    Clambering around in dark;
    Take somebody’s hand;
    Hold onto it with your heart.

    Because once you’ve been beaten;
    Dragged away from afar;
    Give hope to others around you;
    And you’ll find who you are.
